On View: Young Artist Award Edition

Tuesday, June 5, 2018

After a year of hard work, Jennifer Lee, recipient of the Young Artist Award in 2017, is ready to share her work with us.

Jennifer Lee’s award-sponsored project is entitled, ‘Odes to My Plague: Vulnerability, Disorder, Recovery’.

Jennifer describes her project:

"Odes to My Plague: Vulnerability, Disorder, Recovery is a interactive installation consisting of artefacts, documents, and paintings. The dinner table is a place where we come together, celebrate milestones, share experiences and achievements, and create memories. The dinner table to me also represents childhood memories and the passing of time: doing homework, playing games, mom’s watchful eye, reading the newspaper, talking amongst friends or family, and the quintessential human experience of eating together. The dinner table for me, however, also represents a troubled space, a challenge to mental health and our relationship to food. Bringing the light and dark together in a Baroque dinner setting I have brought different versions of myself from the past, present, and future, to meet up to eat modern-day junk food. Through video installation, I preside over the scene and invite viewers to engage with all these versions myself, as I offer a final eulogy to my eating disorder."

We are very excited to see the fruition of Jennifer's project on June 5th and we hope you will join us!
