About the Ottawa Arts Council

For 35 years, the Ottawa Arts Council has been dedicated to Ottawa’s arts and culture sector by representing the interests of local artists and arts organizations. Founded in 1982, this membership-based arts umbrella organization works closely with the local arts community to develop talent and grow opportunities. We engage the general public in discussions around supporting and building stronger arts and culture sector. The services we provide to artists and arts organizations are central to our work.

Primary Objective of the Position

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator supports the Ottawa Arts Council’s programs and mandate by developing and implementing the organization’s communications and marketing goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with Ottawa Arts Council team, create and implement a communication strategy to promote the Council’s activities including awards, workshops, special events, facility, and services
  • Draft, compile, assemble and disseminate email communications to the subscription list including monthly enews and targeted email campaigns
  • Assure that all communications are disseminated bilingually and coordinate with contract translators to provide translation of all communications
  • Evaluate all content and update requests for quality and structure
  • Ensure all content is posted on time and in proper format
  • Maintain, update and draft website content to promote upcoming events, programs and feature
  • Develop a social media strategy for all marketing and communications campaigns
  • Manage the Council’s social media presence to promote the Council’s programs and priorities
  • Develop media relations in both French and English
  • Maintain visual branding and content standards for all Council content

  • Has tact, diplomacy and maturity in dealing with the public
  • Has strong interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Is a strategic thinker with the ability to problem solve
  • Has demonstrated planning skills in preparing communications and publications
  • Has the ability to work flexible hours including evenings on an as needed basis

 

Required Skills and Experience

  • Has completed a secondary degree in communications, journalism, or related field, or has equivalent experience
  • Has 2 years experience in Communications and Marketing
  • Has proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar
  • Has experience with email design software
  • Is bilingual, French and English, oral and written
  • Has experience with proof-reading

 

Additional Assets

  • Has experience using a CMS (such as Drupal) to manage online content
  • Has experience with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Has experience using databases or CRMs
